This combination of technologies serves as a workaround to the M1 platform only supporting a single external display via USB-C. Note: These multi-display docks use a combination of USB-C Alternate Mode (native “Alt Mode” video output) and DisplayLink technology (requiring a driver to be installed). It’s great for hooking your MacBook Pro or Macbook Air to an external display. It also occasionally looks like its swiping the display to one side before restoring the display. And the Anker USB C to HDMI Adapter Cable is no different. Every few minutes, the monitor goes black for second or two, then recovers. I have a new (<60 days old) U2415 monitor connected to a 2016 MacBook via the HDMI port. Naturally, we wanted to see how accurate that was. Per the specifications, the Mac Mini will natively support up to two external monitors (One via the HDMI port and a second via USB-C), while the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13″ only support one external display.
